How Sand Tech built a global culture of wellbeing with Strove

A unified platform supporting mental health, movement, and sustainable habits across a global workforce.
Sand Technologies

Supporting wellbeing across a global team

Sand Tech is a global technology company with teams across Africa, Europe, the United States, and Asia. Operating in fast-paced, high-performance environments, maintaining employee wellbeing and connection has become an increasingly important priority.

As the business scaled, Sand Tech wanted to move beyond traditional wellness initiatives and build a more inclusive, accessible approach - one that supports both physical, nutritional and mental health in a meaningful way.

The ambition was simple: give employees the tools to build healthy habits daily, while also providing access to professional support such as coaches, counsellors, and psychologists - all within a single platform.

To achieve this, Sand Tech partnered with Strove to deliver a wellbeing solution that combines engagement, support, and rewards. Today, Strove plays a central role in how the company supports its people globally.

The challenge

Sand Tech needed to rethink how wellbeing could be delivered across a distributed, diverse workforce - without adding complexity or creating another underused initiative.

The key challenges were:

  • Providing holistic support, including both physical wellbeing and access to professional mental health services
  • Creating inclusive engagement that appeals to both active and less active employees
  • Ensuring global consistency, so all employees feel equally supported regardless of location

They needed a solution that employees would genuinely use, while giving leadership confidence in their wellbeing strategy.

Why Strove

Strove stood out by offering a flexible, all-in-one platform that combines engagement with real support.

With Strove, Sand Tech was able to:

  • Provide access to Talk, connecting employees with coaches, counsellors, and psychologists
  • Introduce Weight Wellbeing (Pathways) for structured, sustainable health journeys
  • Drive participation through challenges and gamification
  • Encourage consistency through habit-building and activity tracking
  • Gain visibility through reporting and wellbeing insights

The result was a platform employees actively engage with - and one leadership can rely on to support wellbeing at scale.

The rollout

Strove was rolled out globally across Sand Tech, supported by internal communications, onboarding sessions, and ongoing engagement campaigns.

Through Strove, employees can:

  • Track movement, steps, and sleep automatically
  • Join company-wide challenges and engage with colleagues
  • Build healthy habits through daily actions
  • Access meditation and mindfulness content
  • Connect with coaches and mental health professionals via Talk
  • Follow structured programmes through Weight Wellbeing (Pathways)
  • Earn points and redeem rewards aligned with their lifestyle

A key driver of engagement has been participation in multi-layered campaigns, including the Strove Q1 2026 campaign, which combined movement, nutrition, mindfulness, and environmental impact into one cohesive experience.

The impact

Strove has enabled Sand Tech to build a more consistent and engaging approach to wellbeing across its global workforce.

To date, 259 employees have activated the platform, representing an activation rate of 67.28%.

This has translated into meaningful daily behaviour:

  • 63 average active minutes per member per day
  • 6,000 average steps per member per day
  • 7.1 hours average sleep per night

At scale, this has resulted in:

  • 64,270 km of activity tracked over one year
    • 187 million total steps logged ~493,000 steps per member annually

Engagement has remained strong across challenges:

  • 144 active challenges participated in
  • 520 Gold tiers achieved

Mental wellbeing support has also seen steady adoption:

  • 241 Talk sessions completed over 12 months
  • ~20 sessions booked per month on average

Beyond the numbers, the most significant shift has been behavioural.

Employees who previously didn’t engage in traditional wellness programmes are now participating consistently:

“I don’t usually do physical exercise, but Strove actually got me interested enough to try. It’s not just about workouts - the mindfulness exercises really work for me.”

— Christelle Ishimwe, Rwanda Operations Lead, Sand Tech

At the same time, highly active employees are using the platform to stay accountable and push their performance:

“Strove kept me accountable through its daily challenges and leaderboard motivation, helping me build sustainable habits and show up for my wellbeing every single day.”

— Michelle Machisa, Senior Business Analyst, Sand Tech

From a leadership perspective, Strove has strengthened both visibility and confidence in their wellbeing strategy:

“Providing broad options for employee wellness initiatives, data-driven insights and creative solutions has enabled us to trust Strove as a partner and genuinely shifted our benefits landscape.”

— Megan Hilburn, Head of People, Sand Tech

What comes next

Sand Tech continues to build on this momentum through ongoing challenges, deeper engagement with Weight Wellbeing programmes, and expanded use of mental health support services.

With Strove now embedded into the company’s culture, the focus is on strengthening participation, supporting long-term behaviour change, and continuing to deliver meaningful wellbeing support at scale.
