The Rohatyn Group July challenge

Transforming a tradition into an experience

Introduction

For years, The Rohatyn Group (TRG) has hosted its annual July fitness challenge, encouraging employees to stay active by completing 45 minutes of physical activity daily. However, managing this challenge manually, with spreadsheets and individual check-ins, was becoming increasingly cumbersome for the HR team, and concerns about the accuracy of the data collected surfaced.

This year, TRG partnered with Strove to streamline the challenge, using digital tools to make participation easier and more engaging for everyone.

Streamlined and engaging: The Strove impact

Through Strove, TRG launched two in-app challenges:

  • A 45-minute per day activity challenge
  • A 10,000 steps per day challenge

Over 90% of employees activated their Strove accounts and enthusiastically took part. The app tracked all activities automatically, providing real-time updates and progress summaries.

Using the Strove App for our challenge created a sense of accountability for me to my fellow colleagues. I didn’t want to let anyone down by not doing my 45min. It also felt good to make a small contribution to our environment through points earned over the challenge.

A month of movement: Impressive results

From morning jogs in Lyon to yoga sessions in Bad Homburg, participants logged a total of 1,983 activities and covered 4,547 km. This impressive effort included over 1,065 walks, 288 workouts, and even 8 surfing sessions. Employees also dedicated time to mindfulness, completing 134 meditation sessions, totalling 47 hours of calm and focus.

The shift to Strove led to impressive engagement:

  • TRG employees logged 717 physical activities over the month.
  • Collectively, participants covered 3,519 km and engaged in 565 hours of movement.
  • Employees completed a wide variety of workouts, from running and cycling to yoga and racquet sports.

One employee, for example, discovered that daily movement can be enjoyable, rather than torture:

I never thought I'd enjoy walking every day, but tracking my progress with Strove turned it into a fun goal to achieve!

The gamified nature of Strove’s platform and the real-time updates sparked friendly competition among colleagues, adding an extra dimension of excitement to the challenge.

Wellness with a purpose: Environmental impact

Beyond just fitness, the TRG July Challenge had a tangible environmental impact. Through their activities, participants planted 132 trees and offset 1,075 kg of carbon — equivalent to the emissions produced by an average car driving over 4,000 km.

The transition to Strove has been seamless and highly effective. We’ve not only improved employee wellness, but we've also made a positive impact on the planet.

Continuing the journey: A commitment to wellness and sustainability

Inspired by the success and ease of this year’s challenge, TRG has stayed on as a partner of Strove, planning more wellness challenges in the future. This decision reflects their commitment to fostering a healthy workplace culture while contributing to sustainability.

Conclusion

A winning formula for engagement and wellness

The partnership with Strove has breathed new life into TRG’s annual fitness challenge, making it simpler, more engaging, and impactful for both employees and the environment. By turning routine activities into a source of motivation and purpose, TRG has set a new standard for corporate wellness.
