Supporting wellbeing across a South African workforce

Bryte Insurance is a leading insurance provider operating across South Africa, committed to delivering innovative solutions for its clients while creating a positive, sustainable environment for its people.

As the organisation grew and the demands on its workforce evolved, Bryte's leadership recognised the need to take a more structured, proactive approach to employee wellbeing - one that went beyond traditional wellness perks and addressed the full picture: mental, physical, and nutritional health.

The ambition was simple: give employees the tools to build healthy habits daily, while also providing access to professional coaching and support - all within a single platform.

To achieve this, Bryte partnered with Strove to deliver a wellbeing solution that combines engagement, data-driven insight, and meaningful rewards. Today, Strove plays a central role in how Bryte supports its people.

The challenge

Bryte needed a single, unified wellbeing solution that could serve a diverse 700-strong workforce, drive genuine engagement, and give their people team the visibility to understand employee needs and act quickly.

The key challenges were:

  • Providing holistic support, including physical, mental, and nutritional wellbeing in one place, rather than relying on fragmented solutions
  • Creating inclusive engagement that motivates employees across all fitness levels and backgrounds to participate consistently
  • Ensuring actionable insight, so the people team could understand workforce wellbeing trends and respond with the right support at the right time

They needed a solution employees would genuinely use, while giving leadership confidence in their wellbeing strategy.

Why Strove

Strove stood out by offering a flexible, all-in-one platform that brings genuine engagement together with real support - and the gamification and rewards ecosystem to keep employees coming back.

With Strove, Bryte was able to:

  • Introduce Weight Wellbeing (Pathways) for structured, sustainable health journeys
  • Drive participation through challenges and gamification
  • Encourage consistency through habit-building and activity tracking
  • Gain visibility through reporting and wellbeing insights
  • Motivate employees with meaningful prizes through Strove's brand partner rewards

The result was a platform employees actively engage with - and one the people team can rely on to support wellbeing at scale.

The rollout

Strove was rolled out across Bryte, supported by internal communications, onboarding guidance, and ongoing engagement campaigns to drive early adoption and sustained participation.

Through Strove, employees can:

  • Track movement, steps, sleep, and meal quality automatically
  • Join company-wide and Strove-wide challenges to stay motivated alongside colleagues
  • Build healthy habits through daily actions
  • Access meditation and mindfulness content
  • Follow structured programmes through Weight Wellbeing (Pathways)
  • Earn points and redeem rewards with Strove's brand partners — including Shoprite, Nando's, Dis-Chem, Outdoor Warehouse, Mugg and Bean, Mr Delivery, and more

A standout moment in the Bryte wellbeing calendar was the Q1 2026 Challenge Series - a multi-layered campaign combining movement, nutrition, mindfulness, and team connection into one energising experience.

The impact

Strove has enabled Bryte to build a more consistent and engaging approach to wellbeing across its workforce.

To date, 343 employees have activated the platform.

This has translated into meaningful daily behaviour:

  • 59 average active minutes per member per day
  • 5,400 average steps per member per day
  • 6/10 average meal quality rating per member

Reward redemption has reflected a wide range of employee interests and lifestyles, with top redeemed brands including:

  • Shopping: Shoprite, Outdoor Warehouse, Dis-Chem, Hirsch's
  • Food and dining: Nando's, Mugg and Bean, Mr Delivery

Beyond the numbers, the most significant shift has been behavioural.

Employees who previously didn't engage in traditional wellness programmes are now participating consistently:

"Small daily efforts really can lead to bigger results. The challenges help us stay active, reduce stress, and build healthier habits."

— Mpendulo Nkambule, Experienced Operations Support Specialist

At the same time, highly active employees are using the platform to stay accountable and push their performance:

"After almost a year of using Strove, three things have convinced me that Strove is the right partner for us:

The team
Working with the Strove team, especially Sasha, has been a standout experience. She is proactive, engaging, and solutions-driven. From the outset, it was clear we had a partner who was invested in making the programme a success.

The offering
The app is intuitive and easy to use, with features and rewards that genuinely motivate behaviour change. What sets Strove apart is its holistic approach, supporting not just physical activity, but also nutrition and mental wellbeing. It's a well-rounded solution that encourages sustainable, healthy habits.

The personal impact
Beyond my professional role, I've truly enjoyed using Strove. While I was already active and mindful of my nutrition, the app has helped me stay consistent. I now find myself aiming for my weekly 200 coins, and then pushing further to climb the leaderboard.

It's influenced how I think about my meals too, considering fibre, healthy fats, and protein in a more intentional way. The webinars and blog content have been incredibly insightful, especially the sessions on sleep, which have been a game-changer for me. Strove doesn't just encourage healthy living; it teaches you how to do it.

And the rewards are a real bonus. I've enjoyed quite a few free coffees, and a colleague recently mentioned she paid only R500 for two pairs of sunglasses thanks to her rewards. Personally, I've accumulated 10,000 coins, equivalent to R1,000, just by moving more, eating well, and staying consistent.

Across our organisation, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
If you're looking to build a healthier, more engaged workforce, Strove is a powerful partner. It keeps wellbeing top of mind, without it ever feeling overwhelming.
Well done, Strove.
"

— Koni Magatshavha, Internal Communications Manager

From a leadership perspective, Strove has strengthened both visibility and confidence in Bryte's wellbeing strategy:

"Sasha is an exceptional partner who ensures we are fully equipped to manage our Strove account and effectively facilitate team initiatives. She is proactive, highly collaborative, and makes managing our wellbeing initiatives effortless. Her efforts have truly driven engagement and strengthened our team connection."

— Louise Ndou, Senior HR Business Partner

What comes next

Bryte continues to build on this momentum through a sharp focus on team vs team challenges and strategic campaigns spanning all three wellbeing pillars - mental, physical, and nutritional - designed to boost employee wellbeing, strengthen company morale, and deepen team spirit across the business.

With Strove now embedded into Bryte's culture, the focus is on strengthening participation, supporting long-term behaviour change, and continuing to deliver meaningful wellbeing support at scale.
