Launching a wellbeing programme is easier than keeping it useful for three years.
Astron Energy, employee wellness provider Wellbe and Strove have done that through BOOST My Fitness. The programme reaches employees across Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas through a mix of physical roadshows and a shared digital platform.
Its clearest result is continuity: activation has remained above 75% across a geographically distributed workforce.
BOOST My Fitness used roadshows to give employees a direct introduction to the programme. People could ask questions, connect their devices and understand how activities, challenges and rewards worked before leaving the session.
Strove became the digital home for the annual challenge. Employees could record activity, follow their progress and compete with colleagues after the roadshow moved to the next location.
The combination addressed two common launch problems. A digital-only campaign can feel remote, while an event-only campaign can disappear once the event ends.
Astron Energy didn't limit access to the original cohort. New employees and people who became interested later could join the platform.
That open-door approach allowed the community to grow without requiring a complete relaunch. The annual challenge created a visible peak, while activity tracking and rewards gave members a reason to return between campaign moments.
After three years, the programme's available daily averages were:
Reward choices give Astron and Wellbe another view of what members value. Shoprite was the most redeemed voucher, followed by Bootlegger Coffee and vida e caffè.
The leaderboard also gave active members a visible way to challenge themselves, while employees starting with smaller goals could still earn rewards for participation.
Neo Maselwa, Talent Acquisition Specialist and Organisational Psychologist at Astron Energy, describes both motivations:
"The ability to track my progress and see the impact of my daily activities has kept me motivated and accountable. One of my favourite features is the leaderboard. Being able to see how my colleagues are performing adds a fun and healthy level of competitiveness."
The World Health Organization's physical activity guidance recommends that adults complete 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity a week, or the equivalent, and reduce sedentary time.
The programme kept movement visible and recordable across three years, supported by annual challenges and everyday activity tracking.
Astron Energy provides the internal backing and access to employees. Wellbe shapes and delivers the wider wellness programme. Strove supplies the digital infrastructure for tracking, challenges and rewards.
Gemma Sher, Managing Director of Wellbe, describes the working relationship:
"Strove has been one of our trusted tech partners for the past three years, supporting us on a client wellness project that continues to grow and evolve. They are responsive, solutions-focused, and always open to feedback."
That division of responsibility has allowed BOOST My Fitness to keep a recognisable programme identity while adapting each year. Its next test is to maintain the activation rate as new members join and the workforce changes.
